The Story Of This Painting.
When I first saw Raina's style and beautiful mysterious face, she immediately brought to mind the old film stars from the 30's and 40's. Rita Hayworth, Veronica Lake, and Lauren Bacall. All classic film stars from that era.
With this painting I have added crosshatching and graphic elements to compliment and contrast the thousands of dots making up the details in this painting.
The painting is done with acrylic paint on 2 sheets of 18"x24" plexiglass on top of 3 sheets of 24"x32" plexiglass. I am incorporating halftone patterns in my most recent paintings. Something else that I'm doing now is adding dots with very saturated color to one of the background sheets of plexiglass. Just above that layer is a sheet of dots with a more natural muted color palette. The effect is to create a painting with lots of color complexity that looks very different up close than it looks far away. This is a version of the traditional Pointillist painters
technique of mixing color.
